Wilkesboro is one of three small towns in NC that has been selected to participate in the NC Small Town Main Street Program, an initiative for smaller municipalities which focuses on creating new jobs and investment by promoting revitalization in downtown areas. The Main Street Program operates within the Division of Community Assistance in the Department of Commerce. 

Main Street has demonstrated it works through helping 

citizens create what they want for their town through community shared visions. The principles of this process are comprehensive, incremental, partnerships, town assets, action oriented tasks, quality focus, change, management and self-help. The Main Street Officials will be here to step through this process. This will not happen overnight; however, if plans are put in place through these series of meetings, you will see a difference within the next several months. 

Focus groups have built upon the community input and results from previous meetings and work sessions on 08/10/09 and 10/05/09. These meetings have helped us gain valuable insights that are essential to the quality of the project and to divide into three committees - Economic Restructuring, Promotion, and Design. 

But don’t worry if you missed the previous meetings; we are still in the initial planning process.  Your ideas and input can and will make a difference in the revitalization of Downtown Wilkesboro! We need all citizens, town officials, chamber officials, bankers, realtors, downtown property and business owners, representatives from various community organizations, non-profits and churches to help with planning the future of Downtown Wilkesboro. 

Meeting Schedule: 

• The next meeting is on 12/01/09 at 6:00 pm.

• Beginning in December 2009, the meetings will be on the 1st Tuesday of each month at 6:00 pm for 1 hour.
