Cub Creek Watershed Stream Assessment & Stormwater Mapping
In
an effort to improve water quality and to restore healthy stream ecosystems
within the Cub Creek watershed, the Town of Wilkesboro applied for and was
awarded a Clean Water Management Trust Fund Grant for $50,000. The Town is using
the funding to conduct a study of the watershed and to map stormwater
infrastructure within the watershed.
The Town has contracted with Earth Tech|AECOM, an environmental
engineering firm, to perform the work.
The
major goals of the study are to identify and map stormwater infrastructure,
areas of erosion, channel instability and sources of pollution within the
watershed, and to identify opportunities for stormwater best management
practices (BMPs). The study results will be used by Wilkesboro to develop future
work plans and grant applications and to implement BMPs that will enhance water
quality in the Cub Creek Watershed.
Earth
Tech|AECOM teams are here conducting the field work portion of the study, which
includes an assessment of Cub Creek and the stormwater system and drainage ways
in its watershed.
Although access to streams requires some crossing of private property,
the Earth Tech|AECOM teams have been instructed to leave your property
immediately at your request. If you have any questions or would like additional
information, please contact the Towns' officials listed below.
This is the first step in a worthwhile initiative to enhance water quality in Cub Creek. The Town appreciates your support of this effort today and in the coming years.
Best Regards,
